What is Bid and Ask?
The term bid and ask is a two-way price quotation that indicates the best price at which an asset can be sold and bought at a given point in time. The difference between the bid and ask prices, or the spread, is a key indicator of the liquidity of the asset. In general, the smaller the spread, the better the liquidity. The bid-ask spread can widen dramatically during periods of liquidity or market turmoil, since traders will not be willing to pay a price beyond a certain threshold, and sellers may not be willing to accept prices below a certain level.

Profit from market growth (going long)
Long position means that you are buying currency expecting it to rise with the intent of selling it afterwards. If you wish to buy a Bitcoin, for instance, then your account will grow in value as Bitcoin’s price increases. If Bitcoin price decreases, then your account loses value accordingly. You can enter the long position by executing a market order to Buy cryptocurrency at market rates or place a limit order away from the market

Profit from market decline (going short)
Apart from a standard trade (purchase), hi5markets platform allows you to open a position that will increase in value as the cryptocurrency decreases in price. Short position means that you are selling currency expecting it to fall with the intent of buying it afterwards. This is referred to as selling or going short, as opposed to buying or going long. You can enter the short position by executing a market order to Sell cryptocurrency at market rates or place a limit order away from the market.

Basics of Leverage Trading
The use of leverage for trading on hi5markets platform allows traders to hold larger positions than they could ordinarily have held with their capital on other exchanges.

Leverage is a technique involving the use of borrowed funds in the purchase of an asset in order to increase potential profits. The point of using leverage is to magnify returns. hi5markets automatically provides funds for all its.

Margin is the amount of a trader’s own funds that are required to open a leveraged position.

The leverage of hi5markets for the cryptocurrencies is 1:100. Therefore, margin requirement for the BTC/USD contract is 1% (i.e. 1/100*100%). So, if you have a trading account with $1,000 in it, you can take advantage of leverage worth up to $100,000.

The leverage of hi5markets for fiat trading majors is 1:100. Therefore, margin requirement for AUD/CHF contract is 0.1% (1/100*100%). In this case, if you have a trading account with $1,000 in it, you can take advantage of leverage worth up to $1,000,00.

It’s important to understand that Margin requirement is the minimum amount needed to keep position from getting liquidated. Traders are advised to keep a sufficient buffer and never utilize 100% of Available margin.

How to calculate margin requirements and leverage
Margin can be considered as a ‘required deposit’. It also means that if the trader suffers a loss, they have enough cash with the hi5markets to cover that loss.

Margin required = total value of trade/ leverage

Let us assume that a trader wants to buy a position of 1 Bitcoin worth $7264 on hi5markets platform.

To obtain the margin required for the trade, the trader would have to divide the total value of the transaction by the leverage provided for the trade.

The value of your long position is priced at $7,264. Therefore, the margin amount required for the trade at 1:100 leverage is calculated as:

($7,264/100) = $72.64

Therefore, to be able to trade a contract value based on the BTC/USD price of $7,246 at 100X leverage, you will need at least $72.64 of deposit value.

Please note, that a trader should never open a position while utilizing maximum leverage, otherwise, they risk of being stopped out in case the market moves opposite direction.

As the price for Bitcoin/USD changes, so also the margin amount will change. However, the calculation above can always be used to obtain the margin required for trading the BTC/USD pair.

Margin Call
A margin call will be issued to the trader by the hi5markets when their Available Margin equals or drops below the required margin amount.

Let us assume that a trader has an equity balance of $3,000 and has 100% Available Margin.

If a trader is leveraged 100:1 on a $100,000 position value, they have locked $1,000 as the margin requirement of 1%. Now the trader has only $2,000 in his balance which means his Available Margin is 66%. If the trade goes badly and the value of the position drops to $98,000, the unrealized loss will be equal to -$2,000 which means available balance has been “eaten up” and Available Margin is now 0%. The hi5markets system will now issue a margin call, and close the position at the current level. If the trader is convinced the market will turn and the trade will finish in the money given time, they should add additional funds to their trading account BEFORE it reaches the margin call level.
